Together, Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square comprise the largest retail complex in Africa. Sandton City is Africa’s premier destination of international glamour, top fashion and lifestyle outlets, and world-class service. Nelson Mandela Square, where Hard Rock Johannesburg is located, adjoins Sandton City. It is home to some of South Africa’s finest restaurants, exclusive couture and designer labels, and a European styled piazza. Nelson Mandela Square offers chic sophistication, culture and glamour all under the African sun. Standing six meters tall and weighing 2.5 tons, the bronzed Nelson Mandela statue in the Nelson Mandela Square was unveiled on the centre’s 10-year anniversary in March 2003. The unveiling also served as a celebration of 10 years of democracy in South Africa as well as the renaming of the centre from Sandton Square to Nelson Mandela Square.
Hard Rock Cafe Johannesburg is the latest addition to the iconic Nelson Mandela Square. The Cafe features dining on the square, seating over 90 people on the Hard Rock terrace. The marble bar takes prominence at the Cafe, as customers are able to enjoy views of the square and the stage, which features a floating constellation of nearly 7000 drumsticks and a back bar wrapped in LED screens all built around showcasing a drum set. The Cafe seats over 200 people and features aged leather American diner-style banquette seating. The iconic Hard Rock merchandise is available for purchase at the Rock Shop inside the Cafe.
From the polished black underground subway station tiled walls to the clusters of imported designer light features Hard Rock Cafe Johannesburg is an eclectic rock 'n' roll mix of raw elements and chic contemporary styling. The Cafe is laced with cutting edge technology, featuring LED screens throughout. The blend of technology, strong design features and pieces from the world's greatest collection of rock 'n' roll memorabilia encapsulates the Hard Rock experience throughout the Cafe.
