Carlos Alomar Bass

This unusual instrument is a handmade Veillette Citron 8-string bass. It was used by longtime Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar during the recording of the smash 1975 hit “Fame” and can be heard quite prominently on the track. “Fame” was a huge success for Bowie – reaching #1 on the Billboard charts in September of ’75.

Bassist/songwriter Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe used this bass on stage for many years. He donated it to the Hard Rock collection personally.

With hits like “Round and Round” and “Back For More”, Los Angeles-based group Ratt was one of the most successful acts of the ‘80s “hair metal” era. Drummer Bobby Blotzer used this Ludwig kit on stage with the group.

MICHAEL JACKSON

Cymbals

Drummer John Robinson played on Michael Jackson’s seminal ‘Off the Wall’ album in 1979 and was the session player on the all-star “We Are the World” charity single in 1985. These are the Zildjian high hat cymbals he used during the recording of “We Are the World”.

GRANDMASTER FLASH AND THE FURIOUS FIVE

Hall of Fame Award

As pioneers of the hip hop genre, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five are among the most important and influential artists of all time. Their 1982 smash, “The Message”, brought social consciousness into the world of rap and echoes of it can still be heard in today’s music. In 2007, they became the very first hip hop crew inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. The award on display is group member Scorpio’s Hall of Fame trophy.
