"We used to tell people that three minutes and 11 seconds was the perfect length for a song. We used to say it meant three plus one plus one, which was true. And P-Nut said it was the total every time he ate at Taco Bell."

Did You Know?
  • While touring, supporting their first album Music, 311's RV went up in flames on the side of the road. They lost everything—all of their equipment, clothes, money, and personal possessions. Besides minor burns, cuts and bruises, everyone was safe. They only canceled one show. Friends of the band and fans donated equipment for their next gigs.
  • During one of their tours, a fan dove from the upper balcony in Philadelphia. The people down below cleared out and he hit the floor. It was not a good scene. 311 had to stop the show for about 15 minutes as the ambulance came for him. They called the hospital and miraculously he was ok. They (and HardRock.com) definitely do not recommend anyone else trying it.
  • Nick's Top 5 Concerts that he has attended are: The Clash in Omaha '84, The Jerry Garcia Band 50th Birthday Show '92 in LA, Pantera in Orange County '95, Jamiroquai in LA '97, and Prince in Chicago at the Metro '93.
  • P-Nut enjoys off-roading in his Landcruiser.
  • S.A. collects Shogun Warrior action figures, the Transformers prototypes.
  • S.A. listens to disco, electro, and old-school hip hop, while Tim jams out to reggae and jazz, and Nick grooves to jungle, punk, reggae and the Beatles.
  • In the summer of 2000, 311 toured with Incubus and in '98 Sugar Ray opened for 311.

"Since I've been down here my bandmates and their families have gone out of their way to take me in and make me feel like family and that means a lot to me. All of us in the band are helping each other obtain our dreams. Damn, that's just priceless *sniffle sniffle*"

"I've always felt that music has moved me more and has had a more significant role in my life than it had in the lives of the people and friends that I grew up with. I never really knew why or how but it just did."
    —Doug (hoobastank.com)
    Did You Know?
  • Doug and Dan went to high school with the guys of Incubus. Incubus has unofficially been named Hoobastank's big brother.
  • Doug and Dan went to junior high with Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson.
  • While in Barcelona on their European tour, Dan and Chris took a day off to check out the city on scooters with Jose and killmore from Incubus.
  • Some of Hoobastank's influences include: Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Van Halen, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hed(pe), Slipknot, Meshuggah, Phish, Sarah Mclaughlin, Bjork, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
  • Hoobastank wrote "Crawling in the Dark" in one and a half days.
  • The fellas in the band often give out random meanings for Hoobastank, such as "it's Markku's middle name," "it is what 'H' stands for in Jesus H. Christ," "it's a kind of perfume." Some say that it doesn't mean anything at all. But in fact only the four members really know what it means.
  • Before picking up the drum sticks, Chris played piano for six years.
  • Markku went to Notre Dame and studied music.
  • Markku, who is of Finnish descent, is very much into Techno and Drum and Bass, enjoys hiking with his dog, painting, and is very much influenced by Asian culture.
  • Dan was 14 years old when he played his first gig. He and his band performed at a talent show in front of four or five hundred people. After that night, he knew he wanted to play music for the rest of his life.
  •
"We practice and write with each other every day. Instead of having to wake up for work every day at 7 or 8 in the morning and working all day then going to practice, we just sleep in, wake up, eat food, take a shower, go to the studio. Now that we have a manager, we have someone else looking out for us instead of us doing all the work."
    —Dan and Doug (hoobastank.com)
