WHY HUNGER?

That’s the question
WHY has been seeking answers for since 1975. Originally founded as World Hunger Year by the late singer- songwriter Harry Chapin and radio host Bill Ayres,
WHY is dedicated to fighting the root causes of hunger and poverty by supporting community-based organizations. It’s at the grassroots level that innovative programs and solutions to hunger and poverty are being created everyday – programs that include feeding the 12.4 million children in the United States that live in households that experience hunger or are at risk of hunger as well as helping to wipe out the startling statistic that throughout the world a child dies every six seconds because of hunger and related causes. At
WHY, the goal is simple - fight hunger by empowering individuals to build self-reliance and break the cycle of poverty.
WHY THIS COLLECTION?
For more than a decade, Hard Rock International has teamed up with WHY to help raise both funds and awareness for hunger-related issues. It’s partners like Hard Rock International -- and generous music fans like you -- that allow WHY to continue the fight against hunger and poverty around the world. Please visit whyhunger.org or hardrock.com to find out more. Each of us has a responsibility to help make the earth a safer, healthier and better place to live. The artists who are generously participating in SERVE4 are doing just that. And, with this purchase, you are, too. At Hard Rock International, since 1971, it has been our mission to support organizations -- like WHY -- and live by our motto, “LOVE ALL, SERVE ALL.”
The goal is simple – FIGHT HUNGER by empowering individuals to build self-reliance and break the cycle of poverty.
LOVE ALL, SERVE ALL
HERE ARE JUST A FEW:
Since its inception, our Signature Series merchandise programs have raised awareness and funds for various charities by partnering with artists like Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Shakira and many more. The 26th series features Jon Bon Jovi and offers a shirt and pin to benefit the Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation.
March On Stage is a series of live music events
held at Hard Rock locations around the globe. Featuring iconic and up-and-coming artists, March On Stage benefits the innovative charities Musicians On Call and Nordoff- Robbins Music Therapy, which use music to help those in need.
Ambassadors Of Rock, a concert tour, helps spread rock ‘n’ roll generosity all around the globe by supporting local charities at every stop on the tour.
Pinktober, now in its 10th year, is Hard Rock International’s live music campaign to support breast cancer awareness and research. Global “Artist Ambassador” Melissa Etheridge, with support from other musicians, helps in the fight against breast cancer, and raise money and awareness through a series of music events at Hard Rock Hotel, Casino and Cafe locations worldwide.
And, of course, this compilation, SERVE4, is another labor of love -- an annual global endeavor that allows socially conscious artists to contribute their talents and influence to the fight against hunger and poverty. The selfless efforts of these musicians, and supporters like you, help provide WHY with the resources to fulfill their mission -- supporting and developing community-based organizations around the world dedicated to ending the horrific cycle of poverty and hunger.
Each of us has a RESPONSIBILITY to help make the earth a safer, healthier and better place to live.
ALL IS ONE.
Three simple words, but one powerful message: we are all connected, and through our collective effort we can improve the quality of each other’s lives. ALL IS ONE is not simply a phrase emblazoned on the walls of every Hard Rock, they’re also words we live by. It’s why our organization, our own hard rockers, our guests and our collaborators constantly come together to support a wide variety of philanthropic causes and activities around the world. We thank them, and we thank you, for joining us in helping make living on this planet better for all.
SERVE4 is a creative collaboration of incredible artists who have selflessly donated their time and talent, as well as behind the scenes managers, labels, manufacturers, distributors, marketers, fundraisers, support teams and affiliated organizations who helped make SERVE4 a reality.
Much gratitude and respect to our partners at WHY -- Bill Ayres, Noreen Springstead and Hillary Zuckerberg -- along with our friends at The Orchard. To David Miller, for starting the relationship between Hard Rock International and WHY. Shout-out to “Producer” Marc Carey for additional A&R support. Many thanks to our 2009 WHY Artist Ambassadors, O.A.R. -- your exceptional commitment, support and leadership in the world of rock ‘n’ roll philanthropy is amazing!
And special thanks to the gracious Yoko Ono Lennon and Jonas Herbsman.

THANK YOU!
With special thanks and deep gratitude to Yoko Ono Lennon for playing a vital role in WHY’s Hungerthon tradition. In 2008 and 2009, Yoko joined WHY and Hard Rock International in expanding the use of John Lennon’s “Imagine”, his name, and image to create a global campaign to improve the lives of hungry children in communities all around the world. In 2008 she donated “Give Peace A Chance” for Hard Rock International’s Serve3 Charity CD, as well as John Lennon’s “Gimme Some Truth” for the Serve4 Digital Album in 2009, with 100% of proceeds of both used to help WHY fight childhood hunger. We are most grateful for her generosity and support.
