HARD ROCK CAFE ARTIST OF THE MONTH – Electric Guest
With their Motown-influenced blend of pop and soul, Los Angeles-based duo Electric Guest are the perfect group to be featured in Hard Rock Cafes worldwide as our Artist of the Month for March 2017.
In many ways, Electric Guest are the quintessential 21st century pop group – much of their renown has been earned from appearing on TV rather than through the oldschool “record and tour” method. The group has performed live on Conan, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and a host of U.K.-based programs; had their music included on influential shows like HBO’s Girls and Suits; and been fêted by the music cognoscenti in publications like NME, The Guardian and Rolling Stone. Pretty heady stuff for a couple of guys barely out of their 20s.
The duo is comprised of frontman Asa Taccone and drummer Matthew “Cornbread” Compton (we really hope there’s a well-crafted bit of mythology surrounding that nickname). They met in an L.A. boarding house suggested to Asa by A-list producer Danger Mouse (who went on to produce their debut album, Mondo in 2011) and quickly gained a reputation as a formidable songwriting team and compelling live performers. Check out this performance from Paris in 2012:
They’ve just released their sophomore album, Plural and are poised to break out huge. We’ll be featuring tracks from the album in cafes worldwide throughout the month of March.
You’re going to dig Electric Guest as much as we do.
